two thousand and eleven. 2011. 2k11. twenty eleven.

No matter how you write the year, 2011, it still seems strange. 2010, you've been kind to me, I've made some amazing friends, had amazing times and just in general been happy. I spent my whole summer working to go to New York in December and it was absolutely worth it. Not just because it's NYC, but because I worked so hard to get the money to go and it felt so good to be seeing something from all of that work and to be able to treat myself to little things. New York, I love you.

Even though this year has been awesome, it's been weird - only in the sense that I can't remember much. Certain months I remember like they were yesterday, but ask me what I did in January and I couldn't tell you. I literally can't remember, but ask me about February, or march or may, october or even december and I can pin point days, quotes from the times, everything. It usually helps if I have a camera in hand to remind me of the times too...

I'm not going to do a resolution because I only break them. Instead I'm going to make a promise to myself to become more confident in myself, to get in shape, to spend more time with friends and family, to make new friends, to work hard with my projects and stick by photography because even though a lot of the time I feel like my work is inadequate to others, I'm only young and I've still got a lot to learn, and this year I'm going to make it MY year. I want a year that I can look back on and remember something amazing from every month. I want a year that I can show people my photography and be proud. I want a year without hassle. I want a year where I travel, whether it's to London, Glasgow, or Berlin or France. I want a year in which I feel like I've worked hard enough to deserve to feel ridiculously happy all the time, and if it takes me nagging, stressing out, or whatever, to make it happen, god help you all - I'm going to make this year my year for sure.

I hope you all get what you want from this year and that you don't spend this year dwelling on last. Be happy and smile a ridiculous amount of the time (to an extent - it'd be creepy being sat on the bus opposite someone doing a cheesy gap tooth-grin!) Do what you want. Stand up for what you want. Make yourself happy and look after your friends and family.

P.s I hope everyone had a good new year! I spent mine with my sister Charlotte, friends Mary and Sheridan watching Youth in Revolt and eating yummy food. Couldn't have asked for a better start to the year.

P.P.s I wrote this all on my Blackberry and now my thumbs are killing - urgh!
